"On first glance, you might assume these incredible images of tigers were taken in the wild. The big cats are seen in all their majesty as they playfully frolic in a water pool. Tiger Nation (Gallery Feature)
"Combining social media with picture ID technology, Tiger Nation gives extraordinary insight to India’s wild tigers, allowing members of the public to work with conservationists on the ground to preserve the population. Tens of thousands of Royal Bengal Tigers in India have been lost since 1900, when up to 40,000 wild tigers lived in its forests. In a stark contrast, India’s last official tiger census announced that just 1,706 tigers are now left in the country. It is estimated that up to 45% of tigers are dying of unnatural causes such as poaching, however, without formal identification; the exact number killed each year would continue to go unnoticed."

Tiger Paw Exotic Rescue Center's youngest remaining tigers, Nora and Katie, 10 and 7, respectively, will depart to Wildcat Haven in Sherwood, Ore., in May."

"Several tribal groups are raising a hue and cry against the declaration of the Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary in Adilabad as the second tiger reserve in Andhra Pradesh. The population of tigers in the state has dwindled alarmingly in recent years and has reported to be anywhere between 72 and 100."

Tiger conservation body member calls for heightened surveillance to prevent poaching
"National Tiger Conservation Authority member-secretary Rajesh Gopal visited the tiger poaching site at Palasgaon range on Saturday. Terming the incident as unfortunate, he instructed officials to enhance surveillance and strengthen intelligence gathering to prevent such incidents in the future. Zoo plans cross-breeding of tigers
"Zoo authorities in Vandalur are moving towards strengthening the gene pool of both Royal Bengal Tigers and White Tigers in captivity by facilitating breeding between the two sub-species. At present, the zoo houses three Royal Bengal Tigers and nine White Tigers. The breeding of White Tiger has so far taken place within the white tiger group. This habit of in-breeding leads to genetic weaknesses, which ultimately will be passed on from one generation to the other, said K.S.S.V.P. Reddy, Chief Conservator of Forests and Zoo Director."

on the last articele: ..."strengthening the gene pool of both Royal Bengal Tigers and White Tigers in captivity by facilitating breeding between the two sub-species." - As if! They are the same subspecies and a totally inbreed (white) line should not be mixed with a healthy line. They should not have separated the breeding judging from color in the first place, but health and pedigree of the total individual number of the subspecies they had.

Thanks for the news again :)
