"Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne has agreed to raise with China the issue of its treatment of tigers. His pledge came after the model-turned-pop star Samantha Fox asked him to act during the BBC's Daily Politics show. She said there were only 3,000 tigers left in the wild and said that in China, despite a ban, tiger skins and parts from "tiger farms" were traded."

"This vet is well used to restoring the sight of dogs and horses, but never has he worked on a tiger before. Roger Lowe was enlisted by the Isle of Wight Zoo, in Sandown, to remove a cataract from the one remaining eye of Zena, a rare white tiger. The 15-year-old big cat with 'tomboyish tendencies', who is a star attraction at the zoo, lost her right eye to glaucoma six years ago. Bengal tiger at home in Colorado wildlife center as he recovers from leg amputation

"One of the usual ways to give medicine to a balky kitty is to open its jaws with a gentle squeeze, push it under the tongue, stroke his throat. That's not such a good idea if the cat is a 500-pound rare white tiger, who just had a leg amputated."

Tiger owner, animals evaluated after second call for help

"Though the Tuesday alert about loose tigers was a false alarm, authorities decided to take a closer look at the owner who made the calls. Tuesday morning around 9:21 a.m. Bexar County Sheriff's deputies received a call saying their were three escaped tigers at the home in the 27000 block of O'Kent. The owner had called a friend saying he needed help, and that friend in turn, called in the deputies. San Antonio Zoo officials rushed to the scene, along with a member of their shoot team. Nearby Timberwood Park Elementary School went on lockdown as a preventative  measure. But, it was all for naught."

Photographer Captures Plight Of The Tiger

"Showcasing the perils that tigers face today was a challenging assignment for National Geographic photographer Steve Winter — but not for the reason you might think. Sure, it's scary walking into the world of killer carnivores, but the seasoned photog has been in many dangerous situations before. Actually, Winter was preoccupied with how he was going to capture compelling photos of an animal that everyone seems to have grown desensitized to. The result appears in National Geographic's December issue."
