India’s tiger population increases by almost a third
"The number of tigers in India has increased by almost a third in the last three years, official figures released on Tuesday reveal. The rise, from 1,706 in 2011 to 2,226 in 2014, will encourage campaigners fighting to protect the endangered species. Activists called the new statistics “robust” and “very good news”."

Tiger population triples in TN in less than a decade
"In a big pat on the back for conservation efforts in Tamil Nadu, the population of tigers has tripled in the State in just eight years, finds the latest official count of the big cats. From 76 tigers in 2006, the number of big cats shot up to 229 in 2014, says the report on the Status of Tigers in India - 2014 by the National Tiger Conservation Authority. The 2010 survey recorded 163 tigers."

"The Humane Society of the United States claims a months-long undercover investigation of two roadside zoo's has found shocking abuse and neglect of exotic animals kept for profit. The Humane Society revealed their findings on Thursday which focus on what they call the persistent mistreatment of four tiger cubs and neglect that led to the death of a 24-year-old giraffe after she had given birth to twins."

Govt plans more tiger habitats as population rises
"Buoyed by the rising number of tigers in the wild, the government has decided to create more habitats for them to ensure their long-term conservation. Sources said the Environment Ministry has initiated steps to convert more wildlife sanctuaries — rich in biodiversity with a wide variety of flora and fauna including tigers, co-predators, prey animals and birds — as tiger reserves."

"A joint team of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) New Delhi, Pilibhit forest department and special task force has arrested eight poachers here, including six on Sunday, and recovered tiger bones, teeth and parts from them. Efforts are on to trace four of their accomplices still on the run. "

Hi, I have a real love for tigers and adopt through WWF and Tiger Time Now as well as for snow leopards. I think it's really great that a group like this exists that helps make people come together through art to hopefully create more awareness of the threat tiger's face in the wild. It really is a terrible situation. It's great to be here :)
